Al Ahsa National Park contains Al Asfar Lake, one of Saudi Arabia's undiscovered treasures. Because of its stunning shallow wetland in the middle of the desert, it is popularly known as Yellow Lake. Numerous migratory bird species and indigenous plant species also call it home. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site because it is the largest body of water in the Arabian Gulf. Since the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) listed the Al Asfar lakes as one of the special tourist experiences during the Saudi Arabian winter season, more people have been going there recently.
The lake is a wonderful location with a pristine environment where you may get away from the bustle of the metropolis. The irrigation springs of Al Ahsa, which supply water to approximately 22,000 farms, are the source of Yellow Lake's water. The lake is a great tourist site because of the flowing water, thick vegetation, and dunes that surround it. The color of Yellow Lake changes from dark yellow in the summer to dazzling yellow in the winter, which is one of its unique facts. Twice a year, migratory birds arrive in Yellow Lake from countries with colder climates like India, Canada, Russia, and Iran.
There are several zones in Yellow Lake, including the Moist, Semi-dry, Wet, and Dry Zones. As a result, various plant species can be found in various zones. There are at least 39 plant species in the area of Afsar Lake that are divided into 20 different groups. Variations in water levels lead to a variety of circumstances that promote vegetation and preserve plant species.
Winter migration of migratory birds includes squacco herons and little grebes to the lake. Yellow Lake is home to numerous animals, including frogs and turtles. Several different waterweed and algae species can be found in the lake.
Surrounded by undulating golden dunes and luxuriant greenery, Yellow Lake is a wonderful camping area in Al Ahsa, eastern province. Visitors can marvel at the stunning vista of Yellow Lake set against a desolate landscape. Campers can enjoy delicious BBQ foods and live music with family and friends during a campfire session in the evening.
For visitors who want to experience Yellow Lake's full splendor, private boat tours are provided. On a private boat ride on Al-Ahsa Lake in the winter, one can observe 39 plant species and migratory birds in their natural habitat.
