Shri Mankameshwar Mandir

Enjoy your Agra pilgrimage to the fullest at Shri Mankameshwar Mandir. It is believed that the Shri Mankameshwar Mandir at Rawatpura is the oldest sacred site in Agra. According to folklore, Lord Shiva decided to leave Mount Kailash to visit the newborn Krishna after he was born in Gokul. In Mankameshwar, Lord Shiva slept here and engaged in meditation practice. Lord Shiva asked to set up his linga Swaroop here in exchange for the opportunity to view the little Krishna. He decided to appear in this region as a Shiva Linga when he met Lord Krishna the next day. On his journey back from Gokul, he stopped in Agra and set up his linga. He added that since his wish had been fulfilled here, any of his followers who came here would also have their wishes fulfilled by his linga. Since then, the temple has been referred to as Mankameshwar.

The Shivlinga is referred to as Shri Mankameshwar NathJi, the Lord who fulfils everyone's requests. Eleven Akhand Jyoti or lights, which are lit with desi ghee, are lit nonstop here.

Silver metal covers the entire Shiva linga. The idol of the presiding deity is kept in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple complex. Worshippers congregate here and burn lamps, which can cost anywhere between 25 and 25 million rupees, after fulfilling their desires. To approach the Shivalinga in this temple, you must be dressed in Indian attire like a dhoti or sari. Other minor temples can be seen in the complex of temples behind the main sanctum. The temple's central Garbh Gruh, or sanctum sanctorum, is where Shiva's divinity, or vigraha, is kept. It is surrounded by the idols of the Shiva family, including those of Ganesha, Parvati Maa, Kartikey, Kirtimukh, Nandi Gadd, and Maa Gaura, Ardhnarishwar, and Maa Annapurna. Another unique attraction is available for visitors to experience here. They are the peculiar paans in Mankameshwar. These paans are beautifully wrapped and refolded to give them a pyramidal shape. Then, before adding coconut powder, silver foil, commonly known as 'Chandi ka vark,' is applied over these paans.
