Ancient ruins can be found in Saudi Arabia's northern Jawf Region, but visitors will be pleasantly pleased to see Dumat Al-Jandal, the only lake in the country. The blue lake contains more than 8 million cubic meters of water and has a surface area of 1 million square meters. The lake's waters surged into the neighborhood of Al-Sabkha 33 years ago, harming the farmers' crops. However, massive pumps have improved the irrigation system and improved how the lake's water is distributed.

One of the most famed tourist attractions in the Al-Jouf region is Dumat Al-Jandal Lake. In the past, that has always been the only explanation for why people have lived there. Rainwater, groundwater, and agricultural irrigation water all contributed to the formation of this lake, which is situated at a low hillside elevation. The neighborhood's development started in 2006, when the roadways were asphalted, new lights and a gated fence were erected.

How to explore Lake Dumat Al-Jundal?

  • Visitors come to the lake to take in its beauty and meander around the homes of the former residents to get a sense of how life was in the past.
  • Overflowing farm water pours directly into the lake's center, creating the lake. Both the lake's spectacular appearance and the quality of its water are well known. To take a dip in this water, you don't need to be concerned about cleanliness.
  • The lake, in the middle of a desert, has developed into a destination for jet skiing and other water sports. Officials in charge of tourism are increasingly relying on this lake to draw tourists to the Jawf region.

  • It also features homes made of mud brick and stone pavement that date to the 18th century BC. Other historic structures can be found that illustrate the history of the area. It's fascinating to see these old buildings.
  • A marina and a floating restaurant were added, along with a stunning fountain that is the second-highest in the Kingdom. This fountain has a lovely outlook.
  • The lake is surrounded by plateaus that are home to a variety of vegetation, migratory and indigenous birds, fish, and other aquatic life.
