Texas Sealife Center

The Texas Sealife Center was established in 2014 by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the region's need for a specialized marine wildlife rehabilitation facility. The center was founded as a non-profit organization to rescue, rehabilitate, and release ill and injured sea turtles and other marine wildlife. They work to educate the public on the significance of conservation and the consequences of human activities on marine wildlife.

The Texas coast, including the Texas Sealife Center, suffered significant damage as a result of Hurricane Harvey in August 2017. The rescue center had major flooding and damage, but all of its animals were saved and evacuated to a location where they are now safe. After the storm, the facility was torn down, reconstructed, and then reopened with enhanced facilities.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and local universities are some of the institutions that have collaborated with the Texas Sealife Center. As a result of these partnerships, the facility can now provide cutting-edge medical treatment and rehabilitation to sick marine species.

The Texas Sealife Center has made a major contribution toward the protection of sea turtles and other forms of marine wildlife in the surrounding area. In addition to working to educate people about the significance of marine conservation, the facility is responsible for the rehabilitation and eventual release of hundreds of species back into their natural environments.

The Texas Sealife Center features several animal enclosures where visitors can observe various species of wildlife and marine animals. These enclosures offer wonderful opportunities to photograph the creatures in their natural habitats.

Things to do at the Texas Sealife Center

Volunteer to help: The Texas Sealife Center heavily depends on volunteers for animal care, rehabilitation, and other responsibilities. Those interested in marine conservation can volunteer at the center and acquire practical experience working with sea turtles and other marine animals.

Be a part of fundraisers: Throughout the year, the Texas Sealife Center hosts numerous fundraising events, including a 5K Turtle Trot and a gala. These events generate funds for the center and bring attention to the significance of marine conservation.

Donate: Visitors can donate to support the organization's mission and aid in treating and rehabilitating ill and injured marine wildlife.

Adopt a sea turtle: Through the Texas Sealife Center's adoption program, visitors can contribute to the center's mission by adopting a sea turtle. The adoption package consists of a certificate of adoption, a biography of the adopted turtle, and progress reports.

Take a guided tour: Visitors to the Texas Sealife Center have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the facility to gain insight into the organization's goals and activities. During the tour, guests can see the facilities where animals are rehabilitated, meet some of the permanent residents, and learn about the importance of conserving marine wildlife.
